"La Ola-MJO": a public-friendly nickname for the Madden-Julian Oscillation

The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is the leading intraseasonal driver of tropical weather, comparable to the interannual ''El Ni{ñ}o/La Ni{ñ}a'', yet remains largely unfamiliar outside the scientific community. The MJO is atmospherically like a ''La Ni{ñ}a'' going around the earth, and metaphorically as ''La Ola'', Spanish for ''The Wave'', evoking a stadium wave. Thus a pedagogical nickname such as ''La Ola-MJO'' could enhance forecast uptake, especially among climate-vulnerable communities.
